BSN Round 4: Leones keep a leadership position- April 21, 2022
It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in BSN, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.
Ponce - Guayama 84-79 The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Leones as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Leones defeated 5th ranked Brujos in Juana Diaz 84-79. Leones made 27-of-32 free shots (84.4 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Brujos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The former international power forward Jordan Murphy (200-1997, college: Minnesota) fired a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. The former international guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-1991, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). American guard Terrico White (196-1990, college: Ole Miss) produced 24 points and his fellow American import power forward Ben McCauley (206-1986, college: NC State) added 14 points and 11 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Leones have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with Quebradillas. Brujos at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Carolina. Brujos will play next round against strong Cangrejeros trying to get back on the winning streak. Leones will try to continue on its current victory against sixth ranked Indios in Mayaguez. Both fifth ranked Cangrejeros and one of their biggest challengers Mets had identical 1-2 record. This time Cangrejeros used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Guaynabo 73-68 on Tuesday night. Strangely Mets outrebounded Cangrejeros 42-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard JJ Barea (183-1984, college: Northeastern) who helped to win the game recording 26 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists and international guard Gian Clavell (193-1993, college: Colorado St., agency: Octagon Europe) who added 16 points during the contest. At the losing side American forward Ben Moore (203-1995, college: SMU) responded with 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and his fellow American import center Zachary Hankins (211-1996, college: Xavier) scored 12 points and 9 rebounds. Cangrejeros (2-2) moved-up to third place, which they share with Humacao. Loser Mets dropped to the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with San German. Visiting Grises were defeated by Gigantes in a tough game in Carolina 85-91. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Grises. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Tremont Waters (180-1998, college: LSU) who helped to win the game recording 27 points and the other American import forward Justin Tillman (203-1996, college: VCU) who added 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-1989, college: FIU) responded with 17 points and 9 assists and U.S. Virgin Islands forward DeQuon Lake (208-1997, college: Arizona St.) scored 21 points and 8 rebounds (on 10-of-11 shooting from the field). Four Grises players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Gigantes left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Guayama. Loser Grises keep the third position with two games lost. They share it with Santurce. Gigantes will meet league's second-placed Vaqueros in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Grises will have a break next round. Worth to mention a great performance of American Thomas Robinson (208-1991, college: Kansas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 14 rebounds and Fabian Rivera who added 13 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side international forward Jose Rodriguez (201-1992, college: Texas Southern) responded with 21 points and 6 rebounds and American point guard Tjader Fernandez (178-1994) scored 2 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists. Atleticos' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Piratas used an opportunity after Ponce lost their game and moved up joining them at the top position. Atleticos lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Guaynabo. Piratas will meet at home Capitanes (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Atleticos will play against Cangrejeros in Santurce and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Indios' coach tested ten players seeing no chance for a win. Brujos left bottom position moving up to fourth place, which they share with Carolina. It was Indios' fourth loss in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Brujos will meet at home Cangrejeros (#4) in the next round. Indios will play against the league's leader Leones in Juana Diaz and hope to get finally their first victory.
